Using the German twisted cast-on method, cast on 88, (96), 104, (112) stitches.

Distribute the stitches evenly across your needles and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist your work. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.

Round 1: *k1, p1*; repeat from * to end of round.

Repeat Round 1 until the hat length reaches 7.4, (8.6), 9.5, (10) inches or 19 (22) 24 (26) cm from the cast-on edge.

Change to double-pointed needles when necessary.

For sizes Kid and Adult Medium.

Set-up round: *k1, p1 5 (-), 6, (-) times, k1, PM*; repeat from * to end of round.

For sizes Adult Small, Adult Large.

Set-up round: *k1, p1 - (6), -, (7) times, PM*; repeat from * to end of round.

Seven stitch markers have been placed, creating eight sections.

Round 1: *k1, p1 to 2 sts before the marker, ssk, SM; repeat from * 7 more times to end of round.

Round 2: *k1, p1 to 1 st before the marker, k1, SM; repeat from * 7 more times to end of round.

Repeat Rounds 1–2 until 32 stitches remain on your needles, with 4 stitches in each section.

Round 3: *k2tog, ssk; repeat from * to end of round.

Cut the yarn and thread the tail onto a tapestry needle. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight, and bring the tail to the inside of the hat to weave in.

Weave in all ends and block as desired.
